More about Westerville, OH

Founded in 1803, Worthington, Ohio is a lively community overflowing with history and culture. Worthington was named in honor of one of Ohio’s first senators, Thomas Worthington, who provided a great deal of assistance in locating the land the town was settled on. After incorporating, Worthington grew steadily over the years, and by 1830 had reached a population of nearly 1,000 people. Following the post-war years, Worthington experienced a dramatic population increase. Located in the center of Ohio, Worthington is the perfect place to explore all parts of Ohio and the nation. If visiting the area, be sure to check out the following locations.

The Pontifical College Josephinum

Worthington holds the distinct honor of being the site of the first Roman Catholic pontifical college to exist outside of Italy. The Pontifical College Joesphinum, which today is a four-year Roman Catholic college, was moved to Worthington in 1931. Designed by Frank A. Ludewig, this esteemed seminary specializes in preparing students for the priesthood. Although originally its mission was to train priests, the first few decades the seminary was primarily focused on teaching priests to work specifically with German immigrants in the area. Following World War I, the seminary shifted its focus to work with a wider range of demographics and began its commitment to outreach and missionary work, which continues to be its primary focus today.

The Half Pint

For you beer lovers in the area, be sure to stop by The Half Pint, a newly opened chef-driven restaurant that specializes in casual dining paired with fine craft beer. The Half Pint is the perfect place to catch up with friends, go on a date, or enjoy time with the whole family in a relaxed, fun-filled atmosphere. While there, be sure to check out some of their signature dishes, includes the delicious (if unusual) PBBJ, which is a standard burger topped with strawberries and peanut butter. And what could go better with such a delicious concoction than hand-battered cheese curds!

Health & Fitness

After chowing down on such a rich meal, it may be time to hit the gym! Recognizing the importance of health and fitness, Worthington offers several programs at the Worthington Community Center. These topnotch facilities include aquatic and fitness centers, as well as basketball courts and a variety of health coaches to attend to all of your physical, mental, and spiritual needs and goals. The organization also hosts programs throughout the year that are designed to promote healthy living and a greater commitment to wellness for those who are part of the Worthington community.

Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center

Originally acting as a public school, the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center of Worthington is a wonderful community center responsible for attracting well known artists and outstanding programming to the area. Committed to providing programs that support arts and local artists and working towards a mission of the importance of arts education, this arts center offers something for everyone, including ballet, live music, and a rotating gallery of art installations.
